Guided Tour

Two weeks ago, we welcomed the City of Antwerp's Department Omgeving at the construction site on Cadix A4 for a guided tour. Here, @bulkarchitecten @generalarchitecture @dethier_bouwgenoten are building a family friendly housing block in the heart of Cadix.
Impressive sights and neighbouring architecture! Great and underrated masterplan, by our heroes Atelier JPLX.

New home

Bulk is the proud new owner of the 'Holy Sint Lodewijk de Montfort' Church in Deurne. Located in this residential quarter between Arena and Te Boelaerpark, the design by Lode Wouters (front section) and Karel Angst (church interior) is a hidden gem in the streetscape. Only the cross on the façade reveals that this is a parish church. We look forward to making this our own sacred home!

Klimpaal in action

We are delighted to see that our primary school, De Klimpaal in Molenbeek, has been able to take care of the children in this neighborhood again since the start of this school year. VRT Karrewiet made a report after some unpleasant incidents in the neighborhood. Hopeful children and the renovated building seem to be embracing each other already in a playful way.

Space for change

Our research from the BMA Label 021: ‘Construct - the architecture of construction’ was mentioned in an essay by Eline Dehullu and Bart Tritsmans in A+ 313 Parallel Practices: 'Tools for engagement and experimentation'. Our research back then was followed by an exhibition at De Singel and the publication ‘Space for change - robust open buildings for the future’ with VAi & Team Vlaams Bouwmeester.

“... thinking about the future of robust buildings based on the idea of the intelligent ruin.”

BULK interview Nobile Puurs_spread

De tuinen van Puurs

The brochure for Nobile by Van Roey in Puurs-Sint-Amands contains an interview with our office. A brief explanation of our principles and the project, a coherent composition of typologies around a collective inner area.

“Building in and at the city implies finding the right balance between texture and sculpture.”

Thuisrand visit

On Friday 13 June, Ine Verhoeven and Inyas Montesinos welcomed the council and colleagues of Thuisrand, our client, for a site visit in Boechout. Due to the hot weather, the tour started in the cool of VZW de Pegode, a previous project of BULK on the Midden site in Boechout. Here we explained how the project came about and what it will look like once completed.

We will realise a total of 32 housing units in phase 4 of the site, spread over four buildings. By splitting these up, we can maximise the airiness and qualities of the site even with the social housing units. The structural works will be completed by the time of the summer break.

What a beautiful collection of alternatives.

Thuisrand Boechout

32 social housing units as a fine tailstone of the BMT site in Boechout, one of our long-running projects.
In good hands with our Ine Verhoeven. And apparently with a lot of buffer capacity!
